Plainfield Chamber College Scholarships
SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE FOR 2024 IS APRIL 12TH. Please read the details below for important instructions on eligibility and where to deliver your completed application.
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Plainfield Chamber of Commerce awards college scholarships to selected students and adults each year!
Scholarships awarded are as follows:
- Three $4,000 general scholarships for high school seniors. $1,000 per year (4 years max) per student (for overall academic/community excellence).
- One $2,500 Memorial Scholarship for trades/vocations/industry in honor of legacy chamber members to bolster leadership in business and community involvement.
- One $2,500 adult "back to school" scholarship to an adult in our community returning to school for a higher education.
ELIGIBILITY
- Must reside or be a student in the Town of Plainfield, Guilford Township or Liberty Township
- Must be a graduating high school senior with all basic credits for college entrance (N/A for adult scholarship)
- Must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or better (N/A for adult scholarship).
- Recipients college of choice must be an accredited institution.
- Must maintain a cumulative gpa of 2.75 or above.
HOW TO APPLY
Materials must be submitted to the guidance office of your school by Friday, April 12, 2024, Adult applicants submit directly to the Chamber of Commerce office by the deadline.
- All applications must be typed, except the Guidance Counselor portion for students may be handwritten.
- Student applicants: Provide a personal letter of recommendation from a school professional or other non-family member.
- Adult applicants: Provide a letter of professional reference from a non-family member.
- On a separate sheet of paper, please type a “Why Me” essay (one page or less) explaining why you are the best candidate for this award. Please indicate how your education fits within your professional growth plans.
JUDGING
The judging will be based on the “Why Me” essay; financial need; participation in activities; academic performance (for enrolled students/recent graduates); community engagement; work history; recommendation/reference; and plans for attendance at an accredited institution.
RECIPIENTS
Scholarship recipients are requested to attend the MAY 21, 2024, Chamber Membership Meeting to accept the scholarship. The meeting is held from 11:30am – 1:00pm at the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center. Parents/guests are welcome. The actual scholarship is sent directly to the specified accredited institution.
All scholarships must be accepted initially in the next autumn semester or quarter after proof of enrollment is received by the Plainfield Chamber of Commerce unless an extension of time is granted for just cause at the discretion of the Scholarship Review Board.
In the event a selected recipient is unable to fulfill his/her enrollment obligations under this program, the award is forfeited and the judges from the Scholarship Review Board may reassign or waive the award.
